Edmonton Veterans Cup
27 April 2010, 22 June 2010
The first Edmonton Veteran's Cup was held on June 12, 2010 in the city of Edmonton, Alberta. A total of 22 Alberta and BC fencers of age 30+ fenced together in pools and direct elimination table. Medals were awarded by weapon, gender, and age category based on the overall ranking in each weapon. More than half of the fencers participated in all three weapons - Epee, Foil and Sabre. The organizer - Edmonton Fencing Club - lent equipment free of charge to those who needed such. An overall Three Weapon Prize was awarded to the fencer who had collected the most points from all three events. The tournament ran in a highly positive atmosphere of competitive spirit, fun and friendship of people of true passion for fencing. Pizza and beer were served at the end. A group of participants accepted the open-to-everyone invitation of one of the local fencers, and the event concluded with a great patio conversation until midnight with no signs of fatigue.

K-Town
Veteran's Challenge
10 May 2010
The K-Town Veteran's Challenge was held at the Kingston Fencing Club on
May 8th and 9th. As far as I know this was the first Veterans only event
in Canada. 29 fencers participated in three weapons. As usual at veteran's
competitions we had a great deal of fun, camaraderie and excellent very
competitive fencing. The competition was mixed, age group and gender
medals were awarded, as well as Master at Arms Trophy to the top finisher
in all three weapons. Delicious lunch was served with wine and beer, which
of course is one of the enviable components of veteran fencing. I am told
that due to the huge success of this first event, it will be held twice a
year. Congratulations and many thanks to Henk Pardoel and his team for
organizing and hosting this wonderful event. Gaby Weisz

The event was very well organized and took place in a hotel ball room on 16 strips. Last year's senior winners fenced this year's winners for prize money of $500-1000 at a Gala evening event. Seeing
ladies in gowns and gentlemen in black tie was quite different from other events, it was a lot of fun (as veteran events always are). Canadian Veterans should keep in mind that this event will repeat next year at the same time. - Gaby Weisz
