August 4th, 2010 - Day two at the Pan American
Championships in San José, Sandra Sassine, the Canadian
women's sabre athlete, made her best result at Pan American
Championships by placing 2nd in yesterday's event. She would have
to battle hard to win her top 8 and 4 bouts as she fell behind
12-14, but was able to overcome those deficits to the cheering of
her teammates. Sandra said of her close matches, "I felt good all
day and I knew if I kept fighting I would be able to come back and
win. " She lost an intense final match to Olympic gold medalist
Mariel Zagunis from the USA. Having fenced her many times she said
of her loss, "she will be the person I need to beat to win a medal
in 2012."

Le 4 août 2010 - Jour deux des Championnats panaméricains à San
José. La sabreuse canadienne Sandra Sassine a obtenu son
meilleur résultat au Championnats panaméricains en
remportant la 2ème place. Elle a eu un combat difficile
pour remporter son top 8 surmontant un déficit de 12-14 sous les
acclamations de ses coéquipiers. Sandra a mentionné ceci au sujet
de ses matchs serrés ", je me suis senti bien toute la journée et
je savais que si je continuais à me battre, je serais en mesure de
revenir et de gagner ". Elle a perdu un match intense lors de la
finale contre la médaillée d'or olympique Mariel Zagunis des
États-Unis. Après avoir rencontré cette adversaire à plusieurs
reprises elle a commenté : " elle est l'athlète que je devrai
battre afin de remporter une médaille en 2012 ". Résultat
