Hugues Boisvert-Simard - Bronze at Escrime International de Montreal
Montreal, May 29, 2010 - Hugues Boisvert-Simard became the second Canadian épéeist ever to step onto the podium at the Escrime Internationale de Montréal Saturday, after having earned a bronze medal at the World Cup event, taking place at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard.  >>more
Congratulations to Tigran Bajgoric, Bronze medalist at the 2010 Australia Challenge
May 25, 2010 – The Canadian epeeist Tigran Bajgoric realized a great performance at the Australia Challenge in Sydney by climbing to the third step of the podium this past weekend. 71 senior fencers representing 5 continents competed on Saturday May 22nd. As a result of his performance Tigran climbs in the international rankings from 30th to 23rd in the world.

Hugues Boisvert-Simard, also performed well finishing in 5th place; with his result he was able to climb one place in the ranking to 11th.

The next World Cup will be important and less expensive in traveling cost; Montreal will host the next World Cup from May 28 to 30th at the Centre Claude-Robillard sport complex. 101 fencers are expected to participate in the men's epee category.

May 19, 2010 – The Canadian Fencing Federation congratulates Sherraine Schalm for her performance at the Nanjing Women's Epée FIE Grand Prix that took place in Nanjing, China this past weekend. Congratulations! Sherraine's next stop is the Montreal Grand Prix on May 28-30, 2010.

May 3, 2010 – The Canadian Fencing Federation congratulates R. Sylvie Morel and Pierre Mainville for their performance at the wheelchair fencing World Cup that took place in Montreal this weekend. R. Sylvie Morel won a bronze medal in the foil category and Pierre Mainville also won a bronze medal in the men's sabre B category. Congratulations to our medalists. Next stop for both our Canadian athletes will be at the Lonato del Garda World Cup scheduled in Italy May 21-23, 2010.

January 19, 2010 - Canada won one silver and three bronze medals at the North American Circuit in San José on the weekend. This competition gathered over 1000 of the best fencers from North America and marked the last competition of importance before the selection for the junior and cadet world championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, which are scheduled in April of this year.  >>more

2009 World Championships - Sherraine Schalm wins silver medal
Montreal, October 5, 2009 – Sherraine Schalm of Ottawa earned Canada’s best ever result at the world fencing championships on Monday winning the silver medal in the women’s epee event at the competition held in Antalya, Turkey. Schalm, whose previous best was third at the 2005 worlds, lost 9-8 in the final to Lubov Shutova of Russia. Anfisa Pochkalova of Ukraine and Sonja Tol of the Netherlands won the bronze medals.  >>more

September 13, 2009 - The CFF would like to congratulate Pascal Heidecker and Christophe Lavoie for their great performances at the Junior World Cup held September 13 in Luxembourg. May 13, 2009 (Montreal) - More than 200 fencers from 24 countries are headed to Montreal for three World Cup competitions scheduled for May 29-31. Escrime Internationale de Montréal will feature the world's best in men's foil and men's and women's epee.  >>more 
Pierre Manville wins two Bronze Medals
Pierre Mainville won two bronze medals, one in sabre and the second in epee, at the recent Wheelchair Fencing World Cup held in Montreal, May 1-2, during the Défi Sportif. In sabre, Pierre met the Greek Emmanouil Bodgod in semi-finals, but lost 15-11. In epee, after an easy victory in quarter-finals against the American Ken Magaha (15-5), Pierre faced a difficult opponent: Alim Latrèche from France, the 2004 Paralympic Champion. Latrèche had the upper hand over the Quebecor and won 15-9. Congratulations to Pierre for his bronze medals and good luck in Lonato at the next World Cup.
Sherraine Schalms wins silver at the Florina Fencing World Cup
16 March 2009, Florina (Greece) - Sherraine Schalm fenced her way to the final at the Women's Epee Fencing World Cup, held March 14-15 in Florina, Greece. She won the silver medal after losing to the Italian Cristiana Cascioli by the mark 15-8. The other Canadian, Ainsley Switzer, finished in 12th position. She was defeated 15-14 by the Italian and future bronze medalist, Giulia Rizzi. Congratulations to Sherraine for her silver medal and Ainsley for her top 16! Heracles Junior World Cup
Budapest (HUN) – Four Canadians finished in the top 32 at the Heracles Junior World Cup held January 3-5, 2009, in Budapest, Hungary, which brought together many of the world’s best junior fencers. The best Canadian result was achieved by Anthony Prymack in Men’s Foil. Anthony made it all the way to the quarter-finals to finish in 6th place. In Men’s Sabre, Vincent Couturier and Joseph Polossifakis finished 10th and 15th respectively, while Karl Gardner concluded the tournament in 18th place in Men’s Epee. Congratulations to these four young men for their great performances!

Canadian men win bronze in team epee
Montreal, June 1, 2008 (Sportcom) – Canada won its first ever major international medal in the men’s team epee event on Sunday with a third place finish at a World Cup competition at the Claude-Robillard Centre. The s defeated France 44-43 in the bronze medal match. France is ranked third in the world.  >>more
Josh McGuire 13th at Montreal fencing World Cup
Montreal, May 30, 2008 – Olympic-bound Josh McGuire of Ontario finished 13th in the men’s foil competition on Friday at a fencing World Cup event at the Centre Claude-Robillard.  The result will also improve McGuire’s ranking for the Olympic draw.  >>more

Pan-AM Zone Olympic Qualifier
Philippe Beaudry has been selected for the 2008 Pan-Am Zone Olympic Qualifier in Queretaro, Mexico on April 26. The winner of this competition will also earn a nominative FIE qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games. Canada can only send one fencer in MS to this competition since at least one athlete has qualified in each of the other weapons.
2008 WE and MF Team World Championships
The following athletes have been selected to represent CANADA at the 2008 WE and MF Team World Championships in Beijing, China from April 18-20, 2008. This is also the test event for the 2008 Olympic Games and only includes those weapons which do not have a team event in Beijing.

Canadian fencers win record number of medals at Pan-Am Championships in Valencia, Venezuela
October 30 (Valencia) - Canada won a record 10 medals at the 2006 Pan-Am Zone Fencing Championships in Valencia, Venzuela. The previous high at a Pan-Am Championship or Games was five (87, 91 and 99). Canadian fencers doubled that mark, winning 4 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals. It also marked the first time that Canada won more than one gold medal at the same Pan-Am Championships or Games.  >>more
Canadian Olympic Committee Names Jacques Cardyn Assistant Chef de Mission for 2007 Pan American Games
MONTREAL, October 18, 2006 – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) announced today that 1984 fencing Olympian and 1983 Pan American Games gold medallist Jacques Cardyn has been appointed as the Assistant Chef de Mission for Canada at the 2007 Pan American Games.  >>more
Historic medal for Toronto’s Igor Tikhomirov at World Championships
2 October TURIN (Sportcom) Igor Tikhomirov of Toronto, a former fencer for the Soviet Union, became Canada’s first-ever male medallist at the world fencing championships on Monday earning the bronze in the men’s epee competition.  >>more
Canadian Fencers Completely Dominate Commonwealth Championships In Belfast, Northern Ireland
September 25 (Belfast) - After a 12 year absence, Canada marked its return to the 2006 Comonwealth Fencing Championships by dominating the competition.  >>more
Hall of Fame Inductions
Ottawa - Michel Dessureault of Gatineau will be inducted  into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame at a ceremony Oct. 24 at the Canadian War Museum. Dessureault was a 20-year member of the Canadian fencing team, in epee and foil. He won a full set of medals over three Commonwealth Games and two at the Pan Ams. He competed in three Olympics (1976-84-88) and had Canada's best Olympic result in men's epee, placing 10th in 1984.

Saskatoon - Allan Francis will be inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame on November 4. Allan was a junior national team member in 1991, a senior team member in 1992, 1993 and 1994 and twice represented Canada at the Pan-American Games. In 1992 he won gold at an Olympic qualifying tournament in Argentina and was selected for the Men's Epee team for the 1992 Olympic Games.

MODLING, AUSTRIA - Last year at this time, Sherraine MacKay, of Brooks, Alta., climbed the podium to claim the Modling World Cup gold medal in Austria. Today she found herself on the losing end of a 14-13 overtime match against Renata Fodor of Hungary, finishing 17th.
