First-year Athletic Financial Awards at Queen's University 29 October 2009
Through the generosity of Queen's Fencing Alumni and with the help of the BEWS Fencing Endowment, the Queen's Fencing program offers two first-year Athletic Financial Awards each year, one for a male fencer and one for a female fencer. Currently, the value of each award is up to $2000. All athletes must comply with OUA regulations in order to be eligible to receive an Award.
Awards are overseen by the Queen's Student Award office. Nominees are recommended by the Head Coach, based primarily upon competitive results and standings. Fencers who are applying to Queen's University should contact Professor Hugh Munby, Head Coach Fencing, if they wish to be considered for an award: munbyh@queensu.ca

CFF High Performance Program (HPP) 28 June 2009, 23 October 2009
The HPP Selection Committee has approved an amendment to the
2010 HPP Qualification criteria to address a situation where eight
or more fencers meet one of the automatic qualification criteria (I, II
and III). This will allow the fencer with the highest combined point
total at both 2009 CSCs to still qualify for the HPP.
The 2010 HPP invitations will be posted shortly. The deadline for
applications is now November 16, 2009.

2009 World Championships 5 October 2009 Sherraine Schalm wins Silver! Canada’s best ever result at world fencing championships
Sherraine Schalm of Ottawa earned Canada’s best ever result at the world fencing championships on Monday winning the silver medal in the women’s epee event at the competition held in Antalya, Turkey. Schalm, whose previous best was third at the 2005 worlds, lost 9-8 in the final to Lubov Shutova of Russia.

Carl Schwende Junior World Cup 28 September 2009 Registration will be open to the selected alternates starting Monday, September 28 at 4:00 pm (Eastern Daylight Time) and will end Monday, October 5 at 8:59 am (Eastern Daylight Time).
Registration will then be open to all Canadian athletes with a valid 09-10 CFF licence starting Monday, October 5 at 9:00 am (Eastern Daylight Time) until Saturday, October 10 at 11:59 pm (Eastern Daylight Time), or until the limit of 30 athletes per event has been reached.
Please take note that no registrations will be accepted at the venue.

Since the 09-10 HPP Selection Criteria will only be published in November 2009 and the USFA has made changes to the registration deadlines for NACs, we would like to inform all WE, ME and WF fencers who intend to participate in the 09-10 HPP that the December 4-6, 2009 D1 NAC in Pittsburgh, PA will be an international selection competition (INT#1) next season.
The registration deadline with the USFA for this competition is October 5th.
We want to inform all fencers who intend to pursue the 09-10 HPP so that they can make the necessary registration steps with the USFA to avoid paying late fees, since this competition will count for the 09-10 HPP Selection Rankings.
All athletes are responsible for their own registration and travel/hotel arrangements for this competition.

Alex was a passionate sabre fencer, referee, former national sabre team member, national women's sabre coach and a steadfast supporter of women's sabre.
Memorial services are being planned at both Beaches (Toronto and Troy, NY) locations.
The Canadian Fencing Federation extends our condolences to Alex's family and friends at the loss of this outstanding individual.

2009 World Veterans Fencing Championships 3 August 2009
The FIE sanctioned World Veterans Championships will be held in Moscow, Russia, September 23 to 27, 2009. All three weapons will be fenced in two age categories, 50-59 and 60+, for both men and women, and 70+ in men's epee, foil and sabre. The age categories are as of the competitor's age on September 1, 2009.
To be considered for selection one must send by e-mail an expression of interest by Aug 7th, 2009, (2009-10 CFF Licence, 08-09 FIE Licence, Passport Number and expiry date, and current domestic veterans ranking) to the chair of the CFF Veterans Division at veteranfencer@bellnet.ca. >>more
