Wendy
was born in Taiwan and immigrated to Canada at the age of 5. She still
speaks fluent Chinese, as well as English and French. She began fencing in
the fall of 1995 at the University of Ottawa Excalibur Fencing Club by
taking a general introductory course to fencing. At that time, women's
sabre was just in its very first year on the University circuit. She demonstrated enough skill and
aptitude to be selected on the University Varsity Sabre Team. A few months
later, in the spring of 1996, she participated in her first Canadian
Championships where she won a bronze medal in individual women's sabre.
Wendy enjoys fencing because of its adversarial nature: “Every
match and every opponent is different. Being the strongest and fastest
fencer does not equate success, whereas strategy, mental toughness and
determination often translate into winning.”
Wendy holds an Honours
Bachelor degree in Commerce from the University of Ottawa (1998) and an MBA
with a concentration in Strategy from McGill University (2003). Outside the
realm of fencing and work, Wendy has also distinguished herself through her
musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto up to the
ARCT level in Piano Performance. She also enjoys spending time with her
family and friends, watching movies, attending operas, and above all,
experiencing different foods. Recently engaged, she plans to get married in
the spring of 2009.

Wendy est

Wendy a débuté l’escrime dans le cadre d’un cours d’initiation qu’elle a
suivi au club Excalibur de l’Université d’Ottawa à l’automne 1995. À cette
époque, le sabre féminin en était à sa première année dans le circuit
collégial. Elle a démontré suffisamment de talent et d’habileté pour être
sélectionnée au sein de l’équipe de l’université. Quelques mois plus tard,
au printemps 1996, elle a participé à ses premiers championnats canadiens
et a remporté le bronze au concours individuel de sabre féminin.
Ce qu’elle préfère de l’escrime est sa nature de
confrontation : « Chaque match et chaque adversaire est
différent. Être le tireur le plus fort ou le plus rapide ne rime pas
nécessairement avec succès, alors que la stratégie, la force mentale et la détermination
se traduisent souvent par une victoire. »
Wendy est bachelière ès Commerce avec distinction
de l'Université d'Ottawa (1998) et détient une maîtrise en administration
avec une spécialité en stratégie de l'Université McGill (2003). Mis à part
l'escrime et son travail, Wendy s'est également distinguée en faisant des
études de musique au Conservatoire royal de musique de Toronto, jusqu'au
niveau ARCT en récital de piano. Elle aime passer du temps avec sa famille
et ses amis, regarder des films, aller à l'opéra et déguster des mets de
différentes nationalités. Récemment fiancée, Wendy compte se marier au
printemps 2009.
